The Peachtree Wind Ensemble Community Band (PWE) is presently searching for our next conductor. This position is a transitioning position meant to serve as the band’s Co-Conductor and assume the responsibilities of the Conductor once our current Conductor retires. As Co-Conductor, the selected individual will collaborate with our current Conductor and split the below responsibilities in half. We are seeking an individual who has a passion for music, education, and a desire to share that passion with our members and the community. This band consists of approximately 75 wind and percussion musicians of varying ages and musical skill levels who enjoy rehearsing and performing in and around Fayette and Coweta Counties.

Position Description
The Conductor conducts and is responsible for all rehearsals and performances of the band. He/she selects the musical literature to be rehearsed and performed by the band. The Conductor has control over artistic decisions, taking into account the history/traditions of the Peachtree Wind Ensemble, and will be open to suggestions from the Board of Directors and band members. The Conductor is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors and is expected to attend monthly board meetings, providing input into the direction and administration of the Band. The Conductor will provide musical direction, education and promote a friendly and welcoming environment for musicians and audiences. The Conductor and members strive for a goal of achieving musical performance excellence.

Primary Duties
- Plan and organize concerts with PWE Board of Directors; approximately six concerts per year.
- Conduct weekly rehearsals; January through June with a break in July and resuming rehearsals August through the December holiday concerts.
- Support PWE’s mission and vision.
- Oversee the music outreach/collaboration with the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
- Conduct band concerts.
- Oversee and communicate with section leaders to provide focused guidance within each instrument group.
- Select music repertoire for performances from our music library, on loan from other libraries, or purchase music as budgeted.
- Work closely with the music librarian to ensure timely music distribution to members.
- Attend monthly Board Meetings held prior to rehearsal.
- Attend quarterly Section Leader Meetings.
- Support PWE’s mission and goals as well as those established by the board of directors.
- Assist the band with securing rehearsal and performance facilities, venues and equipment, (as needed).
Professional Attributes
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in the field of Music or Music Education.
- Possess strong, positive and influential leadership skills.
- Expertise and patience in conducting musicians with a wide range of ages and musical skills.
- Experience in music selection, concert programming and familiarity with concert band literature.
- Ability to identify and rectify tuning, phrasing, technique and any other musicianship challenges in rehearsals.
- Develop open and good symbiotic relationship with the band’s board of directors.
- Cognizant and Responsible for protection of band budget and organizational integrity.
- Five or more years teaching experience in the classroom, preferably high school or college.
- Effective conflict resolution skills.
- A willingness to work closely with the Board of Directors, Assistant Conductor, Section Leaders, Music Librarian and Band members.

Rehearsal Schedule & Location
- The band rehearses once a week on Monday evenings from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
- Rehearsals also include a dress rehearsal before each Sunday concert, normally the Thursday evening before the concert from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.

Honorarium & Stipend
- The honorarium is currently $1,000 and the stipend $1,000 and is given bi-annually.

Selection Timeline
- Interviews will be conducted the first 2 weeks of April.
- Selected candidates will be invited to rehearse with the band on one of our scheduled Monday evening rehearsals.
